Golden Sunset in Silver City

Just outside of Silver City, New Mexico sits this expansive rural land real estate property that I was sent to make a 4K drone video of, as well as aerial and still photos for Hemingway Land. This was one of the easiest rural land properties to access by vehicle, but one of the hardest to traverse by foot due to abundance of tall grass and the rolling topography of the property. I did so much up and down walking that it closed the exercise ring on my Apple Watch! This drone video ends with one of my favorite sunset shots of its kind. The light was soft and I slowly flew to the right just letting the setting sun linger in the frame.

Drone Over and Through the Woods

Never been to Timberon? Never heard of Timberon, New Mexico? It is a very small, hidden community down a long, twisting mountain road south of Cloudcroft. If you long for trees and living in a forest, this is the place for you! I was there for a second time recently on a rural land real estate shoot on assignment for Hemingway Land flying my DJI Mavic Pro drone over rural land real estate in challenging conditions. Note how much the trees are blowing in the drone video. Plus, the property was entirely tree covered, and sloping uphill away from me where I was flying from. It does not get much harder than that for flying a drone. How to make the video interesting when it is nothing but trees?? Lots of gimbal movement!

I was having to will the clouds away all afternoon, and finally just before sunset a sliver of sky opened up just above the horizon allowing the sun to blaze through for me to get these sunset HDR photos. And to fly my Mavic Pro drone one more time producing one of the best into the sun shots I have made to date.

Leaves Changing in Tierra Amarilla New Mexico

Back out on assignment for Hemingway Land Company in Rio Arriba County, New Mexico near a small town called Tierra Amarilla, I was treated to the beginning of some fall foliage and distant snow capped mountain views. Rio Arriba County is my favorite in all of New Mexico for its majestic beauty ranging from mesas to lakes to mountains to forests. It was peaceful out here and the sweeping landscape was not a bad office for one late afternoon’s work! The only thing was the mud! See the photo at the bottom for what the Jeep Renegade Trailhawk looked like after just a brief drive in down the dirt/mud road!

Cedar Crest New Mexico Rural Land Real Estate Drone Video Photos

In a way I feel like the area east of the Sandia Mountains is kind of like the dark side of the moon -- it is a place not many ever see, yet it is right there. Cedar Crest, New Mexico is on the dark side of the moon, or rather east of the Sandia Mountains and has that feeling of being quite removed from the hustle and bustle of Albuquerque, but it is really close by. It's just tucked behind the mountains for safe keeping! This rural land property is available via Hemingway Land Company.

Enjoying the sunset view while flying

I had been to Taos before for rural land real estate photography and drone video work, but this was my first time to Angel Fire, New Mexico. Even though they are quite close to each other, Angel Fire feels very different from both Taos and everywhere else in New Mexico. The scenery was sweeping and wide open, but green and mountainous. The architecture and design of many buildings was that of a ski lodge. Even in the middle of August, there was a chill in the air! It was fantastic to escape the hot Albuquerque summer even just for a few days and get paid to watch a great sunset through my Nikon on the ground and my DJI Mavic Pro in the air.

Trying to find the sunset in Edgewood, New Mexico

Out on a rural land photography assignment in Edgewood, New Mexico, I was warned by the land broker that access to this 5-acre property might be challenging. It certainly was! Barbed wire and gates blocked the first few access road, and the last, "legal access" point was down an eroded incline even too extreme for my Jeep Renegade Trailhawk! I had to park at the top of the incline, then carry about 40 pounds of photographer gear, drone gear and my tripod for about a third of a mile first down that incline then up a rocky ridge.
