Rio Arriba County New Mexico Dramatic Clouds over Sierra Negra with Drone Video

Dramatic views of Sierra Negra mountain

This was a return for me to both Rio Arriba County, New Mexico, and also Sierra Negra mountain. I was first in this area over 18 months ago and made one of my favorite landscape photos of New Mexico, so much so I had a print made and it is hanging on the wall in the dining room. The skies were of a different level of drama this time featuring bold clouds, and therefore made the mountain look totally different. Also, I have drone video this time featuring the mountain in the background.

Wondrous rocks of Rockhound & Florida Mountains

Over the course of three hours in the desert southeast of Deming, New Mexico covering over 50 miles, many of it dirt road, I was treated to various views of both Rockhound State Park and the Florida Mountains. These have unusual names, but perhaps because of their unusual rock formations. I was actually being paid to enjoy these views as I actually in the midst of a six location rural land real estate photo shoot. Even though it was of course hot, the weather was otherwise near ideal for day time landscape photography with plenty of clouds and mountains on the horizon in most directions. I was quite busy driving to all these locations, but I did take time to pause, and realize the amazing desert environment I was all out all alone in.

9 Month Aerial Drone Photo Project in Placitas New Mexico

I was contacted about a very interesting aerial drone photography project in Placitas, New Mexico, which is about 30 minutes north of Albuquerque. Cindy & Jeff are building a custom home on undeveloped desert land and wanted a photo story of this process over the 9 months or so it will take to go from land to completed home. I was very glad they chose me as their drone pilot for this project as I will enjoy going out to their beautiful land in Placitas throughout the next 4 seasons documenting with aerial drone photography both how their homesite changes, and also the surrounding natural landscape and the Sandia Mountains standing boldly in the background.

Stunning Las Cruces New Mexico Sunset 4K Drone Video & Aerial Photos

Beautiful Isolated Las Cruces Desert

Out on assignment for Hemingway Land in Las Cruces, New Mexico, miles of dirt road took me to an isolated, but beautiful rural desert real estate property with great views of the Organ Mountains. In fact mountains highlighted the views to the west and the north as well. I was actually right in this same remote section of desert in May for another even harder to reach property. I was relieved to discover the washed out road with deep ruts was now mostly filled in with chalky dirt that covered myself and my Jeep nearly entirely. I had to be extra careful to keep my cameras and my drone clean!

Old Human Old Geological in Taos

The ski resort town of Taos, New Mexico is a place one would expect to find sweeping views of mountain landscapes. For my photograph of such a well known view, I wanted to make it standout by using in the foreground and old, relic of a pickup truck to juxtapose with the natural features of the background. Both the foreground and background contain old things, with the former old in terms of human years, and the latter in terms of geological millennia.

Lover’s Leap is Steep

Traveling all over the state of New Mexico for rural land photography work allows me to explore some off the beaten path places in between shoots. The latest was Spring Canyon State Park, which is really part of Rockhound State Park, and this particular canyon is Lover’s Leap Canyon. That’s complicated! All without mentioning these parks are made up of the Florida Mountains! The trail up Lover’s Leap Canyon is allegedly only 0.9 miles, but it takes over 30 minutes due to how steep and rocky it is. The view just keeps getting better and better as the trail gets higher. Once at the top, take off your backpack, get out a snack, and enjoy the fruit of one’s hiking labors! This is another hidden gem in New Mexico.
