A Return to Candid Event Photography at UNM for CSA in 2022

Now that events are happening once more in Albuquerque after the pandemic put a long stop to them, it was great to return to UNM for the Computer Science Alliance Event and to work with Paige and Yolanda again. It was a long 3 years in between this recent event and the last one I photographed for them back in June of 2019. For this event, teachers in STEM come from around the state to learn and share teaching techniques. They sounded so interesting in fact, it almost made me miss being back in school! Almost. I would not pass up a chance to build a rocket one more time though! Thank you to Paige and Yolanda for continuing to choose me as the photographer for CSA and for putting on a great event at UNM.

Professional Event Photography at Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa for PayneWest 2022

Professional Event Photography at Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa for PayneWest 2022

Professional event photography at an awards event at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya

Event photography is really starting to return in 2022 as I went to the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa for a multi-day conference for employees of PayneWest. I actually made 30 headshots to start out the event, then returned the next day to photograph the awards ceremony seen here. While I still have reservations about being in a room full of hundreds of people who just flew in from all over the country, and I still wore my N95 mask during the entire event, it was also nice to feel the energy of a live event with everyone extra excited to see each other after a long time apart. Thank you to the team at PayneWest for choosing me as both your event and headshot photographer!

Professional Event Photography at Embassy Suites by Hilton Albuquerque for SWE

Professional Event Photography at Embassy Suites by Hilton Albuquerque for SWE

A return to photographing events in Albuquerque for SWE

The uncanny symmetry in timing of photography shoots continues, as nearly exactly two years to the day, and at the very same hotel, the Embassy Suites by Hilton Albuquerque, I photographed my first indoor event since the pandemic started! It was a big return too, shooting 10 hours on a Friday and Saturday for SWE (Society of Women Engineers) having one of their WE Local events right here in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was great to be back photographing a multi-day conference and feeling the energy and excitement of such an event. Plus, I learned a lot too as I photographed the dozens of breakout sessions and the four keynote speakers. I really appreciate Rochelle, a local member, recommending me for this job as she was a former headshot client.

Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta 2021 Opening Day

Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta 2021 Opening Day

Biking to balloons to break a 3 year jinx

My own Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta jinx was finally broken after a span stretching three years, and on opening day I was able to see the Grand Ascension. Fog, traffic, Covid, all thwarted plans the past three years, but finally some luck in 2021. I must say though, I did not feel the usual energy out in Balloon Fiesta Park on a not too cold morning. Maybe it was just me? This year also marked the first time I rode my bike to the event, which other than a 7.5 mile ride in the dark, was the best way by far to get there. It also resulted in being able to get photos of the balloons along and landing by the North Diversion Trail, a dedicated, paved cycling path that goes essentially parallel to I-25 directly from Balloon Fiesta Park all the way to I-40.

3rd Annual Jennifer Riordan Golf Classic 2021 Event Portrait Photography

Early morning portraits from the 3rd hole at Twin Warriors

Events, especially outdoor ones, are starting to come back in New Mexico, and it was a great time making golfing foursome portraits on the 3rd hole of the Twin Warriors Golf Club as part of the 3rd Annual Jennifer Riordan Golf Classic. I was actually working for Junior Achievement of New Mexico who put on a great event and provided me with two great volunteers to help photograph 35+ foursomes that day. Thank you to Lindsay and Jeff for helping out with the photography and to Patricia for choosing me as the photographer for this event!

Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm visits Albuquerque New Mexico

Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm visits Albuquerque New Mexico

Secretary of Energy Granholm is all over Albuquerque

Not one, but two events on one day photographing Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm right here in Albuquerque, New Mexico was how I spent a recent Wednesday. These were the first real events I photographed since the pandemic started. The first event was hosted by SWEEP and took place near a residential building in SE ABQ. The spectral lighting made it tough to get good looking photos from a photography perspective, but as you can see from the photo below, my camera was not the only one there dealing with that challenge! The next event was at Kairos Power, which is a new client of mine I did a lot of headshots for just the prior week. This time they invited me back to photograph Secretary Granholm on a tour of the facility. Many of those photos can be used in house only because of the propriety content in them, but I am able to share a few of the tour photos, ending with a creative shot of the Secretary ending a long day in ABQ!

Ground Breaking Ceremony Event Photography in Albuquerque New Mexico

Ground Breaking Ceremony Event Photography in Albuquerque New Mexico

The first event I photographed since the pandemic began

With the goal of bringing more affordable housing to the greater Albuquerque area, Multigreen held a ground breaking ceremony on the west side of ABQ that will develop 40,000 units by 2030 according to the banner used as a background for the group photos. This was the first formal event I photographed since the pandemic started over a year ago. Photographing events like this and also national and international conferences used to be 15%+ of my annual business and some of the photography I enjoyed the most. I look forward to their return, hopefully in the not too distant future.
