Sandias Albuquerque New Mexico Family Sunset Portraits with Darrell

Do you have a family portrait this much fun from Albuquerque New Mexico? - Nikon D750 with Tamron 15-30mm @ f/4 1/500th ISO 800 - Strobist:  SB-800 in 32" octosoftbox and SB-600 with cap diffuser triggered by Pocket Wizard Flex TT5 high speed flash sync

I first met Darrell when he came to my Home Studio for a headshot session in December of last year.  I was very happy to hear he wanted me to be his family's portrait photographer this time.  I was extra excited because after shooting dozens of families in Florida for sunset beach photos, this would be my first family desert sunset portrait session!

This is a 4K drone video showing behind the scenes of our family portrait session.

Believe it or not the weather started out the morning of the shoot day with snowflakes falling!  By late morning it thankfully cleared up and we had clear sunset skies by the time we met 1 hour before sunset.  This allowed me to make sunset portraits like the one above.  It was still quite cold out though even without any snow falling!

The golden light was welcome and familiar to me as it was similar to the light on Florida's beaches at sunset that I was used to.  What I was not used to though was sidestepping into a cactus and getting a sharp pain in my ankle and still holding on to my camera!

I look forward to continuing to be Darrell's go-to photographer for his family photos and for his business photo needs as well.  Thank you Darrell!
