Deming New Mexico Desert Landscapes in Jeep Renegade Trailhawk

Wide open desert in Deming New Mexico

Back in Deming, New Mexico exploring both east and west of the Florida Mountains out on a rural land real estate photography shoot for Hemingway Land Company, my Jeep Renegade Trailhawk took me miles off road dodging tumbleweeds and avoiding thorny bushes. In a total of 6 hours in the desert over two days, I saw no human, just a few jack rabbits and a coyote. It was great! It was definitely a New Mexico True experience.

Desert Cactus of Rio Rancho New Mexico True Landscape Photography

Me and a cactus

Many times when I am out on a rural land photography shoot, it is just me and a cactus passing the time waiting for the sun to set for me to get my final shots. Such was the case on a recent shoot in remote northwest Rio Rancho, New Mexico where this cactus kept me company and allowed me to make this photo featuring a sky full of floofy clouds.

Cloud life on the highway in New Mexico

For regular followers, you will know that I have been spending a lot of time in Valencia County, New Mexico off of Highway 6 that leads from I-40 to Las Lunas. It just so happened that due to their suddenly being good clouds, I made an all afternoon return trip for a 6-property shoot on a Sunday afternoon. I try and not even look at my cameras or my desk, or anything like that on Sundays, but I knew the forecast was not great for the rest of the week and the client really wanted good clouds in the sky. So to get the shots wanted I went even on a Sunday afternoon, which is what one needs to do if you want to be the best rural land real estate photographer in the state, you go when there are clouds.

Landscape enemy saved by agave!

A third trip in 6 weeks to Valencia County, New Mexico where I met the enemy of the landscape photographer, i.e. a cloudless sky. However, these agave plants volunteered to be in the foreground of my photo to add some visual flair to what otherwise would have been a mediocre HDR sunset photo. Train by Drone

While out on a Saturday morning drive in the M3, somewhere in the middle of the desert between I-40 and I-25, I stopped to get some drone shots of the M3 itself. with my DJI Mavic Pro drone. Just after launching the drone, a train rolled by and I quickly changed subjects! I took this surprise opportunity to capture a few trains passing in succession make their way through a wide open desert landscape. As I often say, you never know what you will actually see with a drone up in the air!

Rio Rancho New Mexico Aerial Drone Photography Desert Road

Rio Rancho New Mexico Aerial Drone Photography Desert Road

Drone’s eye view of Rio Rancho desert road

While out on a drone aerial photoshoot for a client in remote Rio Rancho, turning away from the actual property site, I saw from the drone’s point of view this long desert road that is apparently a popular spot for motorcycles to do burnouts on! This is something that would have been very hard to observe from ground level. I am often surprised by what I find when I get home and import drone aerial photos. Even without the tire marks, I like the view the drone captured where the winding road takes the viewer into the desert, but the height of the drone keeps the viewer safe from the hardships of the desert, allowing quick escape if necessary.
