Sleeping bag product photography in Albuquerque

Returning client Tavis, of Morrision Outdoors, brought his latest kids sleeping bags to the JCP Home Studio for professional product shots, that are featured on REI.com. This was my third shoot for him, and done in a safe, social distancing way in this time of Covid-19. He dropped off the sleeping bags in the studio with both of us wearing masks and 6 feet apart, and then left as I started the photo session with great help from Jessica as always who staged the sleeping bags. I show one of our secrets in a BTS photo below showing how to get volume in a sleeping bag by filing it with towels, paper towels, and even a canister of disinfectant wipes!

Bisbee Arizona Art Walls on the Street

Bisbee Arizona Art Walls on the Street

Art on the walls of houses in Bisbee, Arizona

Driving down a valley road in southern Arizona, I could not have been more surprised with how delightful I found the small, hidden town of Bisbee. I have never seen a town wedged into a very narrow, very steep valley like Bisbee is. The topography forces some creative home building, such as walls for leveling out the property. What do the people of Bisbee do with these walls? Many of them embedded colorful glass bottles into them! And the narrow gaps between houses? Well you might find and art museum amount of paintings hanging up! I highly recommend visiting Bisbee someday and feeling the great vibe of this hidden gem of a town.

Large product photography for Aristech on green screen

Returning client Aristech, located in Belen, New Mexico, this time needed professional product shots of a very large (7 feet tall!) item on a green screen. Regular readers of Jason Collin Photography may recall that last fall I made a wide variety of commercial photos at Aristech of the team producing this type of item. That was a very complicated shoot in terms of moving around the facility. This large product shoot was complicated in its own way due to the size of the item and its highly reflective surface. The overhead lighting could not be adjusted other than being turned completely off. After trying a couple of different lighting setups, I finally settled on one overhead light only on the time. You can check out the BTS shot below showing the entire green screen setup.

Summer at Santa Fe Ski Resort New Mexico Landscape Photography

Green mountain landscape in a desert state

Revisiting photos I took at the Santa Fe Ski Resort as part of a car show with the BMW Car Club from the last day of summer last year, I found this landscape photo I had not yet shared. This area is where the ski lift would drop you off at in snowier times, but I hiked up to this viewpoint in the pleasant afternoon sunshine. Would you think this was a photo taken in a mostly desert state? Santa Fe is its own island world in New Mexico.

Boulders and Exploring the foothills of the Sandias

Every time I go up into the foothills of the Sandia Mountains I think the same thing, I need to come here more. There are so many different trails to approach the Sandias from that it will take you quite a long time to exhaust them all. Like this time, I found this rock wall that was great for bouldering and general climbing and exploring. It was even dog accessible! If you have not gone out to the foothills of the Sandias in a while, take some time this weekend to get a very different view of Albuquerque.

Saguaro Cactus of the Sonoran Desert in Tucson Arizona

Saguaro Cactus of the Sonoran Desert in Tucson Arizona

Saguaro of the Sonoran bold and odd alike

A random stop lead to exploring the Sonoran Desert in Tucson, Arizona for the first time. When most imagine what a cactus looks like, they picture a saguaro standing tall with its arms out. This section of desert had on display a wide variety of odd, tall, and even dying saguaro cacti. I was impressed by the size and boldness of a saguaro standing naked in the desert. Knowing they do not start to grow their first arm until age 70 really puts the longevity of these desert flora into perspective, especially when you see one with 4 or 5+ arms.

Albuquerque Product Photography for Morrison Outdoors sleeping bags

Product photography in Albuquerque good enough for REI

Returning client Tavis visited the JCP Home Studio in Albuquerque, New Mexico with two new sleeping bag products. He first visited in August of last year with sleeping bags for small kids, and now has some of his unique sleeping bags for bigger kids. He is continuing to expand the Morrison Outdoors line of products, and I am glad he continues to choose me as his product photographer. I used my own BTS shot from the first shoot to help me get setup faster for this second shoot with the added wrinkle that these sleeping bags were longer and I had to get up higher and shoot a little wider to fit them in frame. Thank you Tavis for continuing to choose me as your product photographer and to Jessica for assisting on this shoot!
