Cycling to the Summit of Sandia Crest

Cycling to the Summit of Sandia Crest

From no bike to the summit in 3 months!

Like many, many people, I got a bike during the pandemic because there are no more team sports, so to get exercise out of the house, a road bike is a great way to see scenery and burn calories. I have actually been on bikes of different kinds all my life, starting with getting second place in the New England BMW Championships in 1982, to cycling 100km in Japan and camping in 2007. The torn ACL I suffered in 2015 put an end I thought to my time on a bike as I could not even get my knee to bend enough to pedal. I sold my bike and gave away all my gear. However, after a while, my knee did get better and I could run and jump again, and as you can see from these photos, ride a bike again! It is also my nature that when i do something, I do it all the way (within reason). So where in April I was doing relatively flat rides of 25 miles, just 3 months later that tuns into riding my bike to the highest peak in the area, Sandia Crest!

Drone photography of bridges in Albuquerque

Back out on another commercial drone photography shoot for WSP in Albuquerque, New Mexico, this time getting aerial drone photos of all four pedestrian bridges that cross Tramway Blvd at the foot of the Sandia Mountains. This is the second time (see Rio Bravo Blvd Bridge) I have photographed bridges to help WSP get contracts. I have also made headshots of their entire team too! Here at Jason Collin Photography, we really, really appreciate our repeat clients. There is not better compliment than for a client to choose us again!

Downtown Albuquerque Sunset 360 Panorama Drone Aerial Photography

Downtown Albuquerque Sunset 360 Panorama Drone Aerial Photography

Downtown Albuquerque like you have never seen before

Part of my drone photography work for WSI Web Enhancers took me to downtown Albuquerque at sunset to get beautiful, attention grabbing drone imagery for WSI to in turn wow their own client with. Mother Nature greatly cooperated with perfect clouds and warm setting sunlight to paint the view of downtown ABQ with, and for me to send up my DJI Mavic 2 Pro drone up to capture. I was west of the downtown skyline so I could provide both a more unique view of the city (most photos show it from the east) and also to have the Sandia Mountains serve as the backdrop. I am very excited to offer 360 panorama drone photos on Jason Collin Photography for my clients!

Trying out hyperlapse video in Albuquerque

I was actually out scouting a location for a client (WSI Web Enhancers) for making a panoramic aerial drone photo, when with the last remaining battery life, I decided to give the new Hyperlapse mode a try. This very short 5 seconds of video took the drone over 4 minutes to make as every 2 seconds it took a photo, in total over 100 photos make up this 5 second clip! I will soon be going out making more purposeful (and longer) Hyperlapse videos of Albuqureque.

Sandia Crest Surprise Visit

Basically by accident I ended up at Sandia Crest for the first time in 3+ years of living in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I have previously shared on Jason Collin Photography views from South Sandia Peak, which I earned by hiking all the way up there. For these views from North Sandia Peak, I have no sweat equity invested as I took the M3 up there. I was actually intending to go somewhere else in the East Mountains area, but found out it required a dirt road to reach that place, so I just continued along the paved road I was on and found it led right to the top the Sandia Mountains! This was also the first time I ever went to the top of a mountain without earning it by hiking up there. It was an odd feeling to enjoy a view that should have come after hours of effort. However, it was still a nice surprise and fortunately it was a clear day.

Boulders and Exploring the foothills of the Sandias

Every time I go up into the foothills of the Sandia Mountains I think the same thing, I need to come here more. There are so many different trails to approach the Sandias from that it will take you quite a long time to exhaust them all. Like this time, I found this rock wall that was great for bouldering and general climbing and exploring. It was even dog accessible! If you have not gone out to the foothills of the Sandias in a while, take some time this weekend to get a very different view of Albuquerque.

Corrales New Mexico luxury real estate drone photos

ABQHomes is sending me all over Bernalillo County, New Mexico to make drone aerial photos of their luxury residential real estate listings. Last time I was in Rio Rancho, this time even further north in Corrales which still has fantastic views of the Sandia Mountains. The aerial drone photos really show this luxury home in context of its neighborhood and viewpoint of the Sandia. This is the unique value drone aerial photography brings to all residential real estate listings, not just luxury listings. See the home from a new perspective, see the neighborhood as well the home lives in as well.
