Albuquerque Wedding Photography at Sandia Crest with Davis and Veronica

An ultimate wedding and meeting story up on a mountain

I met Davis and Veronica last summer, as I was drafted onto their summer league ultimate frisbee team. I saw them again at other frisbee events, and since I took photos at some of those, they knew I was a professional photographer. So when they got engaged earlier this year, I was very flattered they wanted me to be their wedding photographer! Their own story of how they met started with ultimate frisbee too!

Cycling to the Summit of Sandia Crest

From no bike to the summit in 3 months!

Like many, many people, I got a bike during the pandemic because there are no more team sports, so to get exercise out of the house, a road bike is a great way to see scenery and burn calories. I have actually been on bikes of different kinds all my life, starting with getting second place in the New England BMW Championships in 1982, to cycling 100km in Japan and camping in 2007. The torn ACL I suffered in 2015 put an end I thought to my time on a bike as I could not even get my knee to bend enough to pedal. I sold my bike and gave away all my gear. However, after a while, my knee did get better and I could run and jump again, and as you can see from these photos, ride a bike again! It is also my nature that when i do something, I do it all the way (within reason). So where in April I was doing relatively flat rides of 25 miles, just 3 months later that tuns into riding my bike to the highest peak in the area, Sandia Crest!

Sandia Crest Surprise Visit

Basically by accident I ended up at Sandia Crest for the first time in 3+ years of living in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I have previously shared on Jason Collin Photography views from South Sandia Peak, which I earned by hiking all the way up there. For these views from North Sandia Peak, I have no sweat equity invested as I took the M3 up there. I was actually intending to go somewhere else in the East Mountains area, but found out it required a dirt road to reach that place, so I just continued along the paved road I was on and found it led right to the top the Sandia Mountains! This was also the first time I ever went to the top of a mountain without earning it by hiking up there. It was an odd feeling to enjoy a view that should have come after hours of effort. However, it was still a nice surprise and fortunately it was a clear day.

Sandia Crest Luxury Real Estate Drone Video in New Mexico

Sandia Crest Luxury Real Estate Drone Video in New Mexico

Overcoming challenges as an Albuquerque drone pilot

This luxury real estate property in Sandia Crest, New Mexico, which is in the east mountains of the greater Albuquerque metro area, was a particular challenge to make both drone video and drone aerial photos of because of the tall trees surrounding the house on all sides. Add to that the very high winds (see trees bending in the video), the cold temperature, and the sun facing the property casting a drone shadow on any low shots, this all made for a drone flight that needed an experienced (and certified) drone pilot like myself to produce a video that was still cinematic and representative of what the property looks like. I wanted to highlight the mountains in multiple directions as the setting for the property, while getting what views of the actual house I could. Especially given the conditions, I am very glad with how the drone video came out!

374 Canon Madera Drive Luxury Real Estate Listing

It is my goal to be the best luxury real estate photographer and drone pilot in the Albuquerque, New Mexico area, and really the entire state.  I continued this pursuit working for Mark & Susan Ryerson on this unique property nestled on the east side of the Sandia Mountains in the Sandia Crest area.  This property was photographed and listed previously and did not sell, in part due to the below average quality of the photographs.  Mark and Susan told me upon seeing the photos that this listing now looks like the $500k+ home it is!  I could not receive a better compliment from a client.  I once again used the flambient technique for interiors and realistic HDR for exteriors.  For information about buying this property, view the realtor.com listing.
