Long time readers of Jason Collin Photography might recognize that striking purple DV10 liquid nitrogen tank. That’s because almost exactly one year to the day I photographed it first for BioLife Solutions. They have updated the look and branding on their mod pak product and needed professional product photography of it to go with the other product photos I made for them last year. Producing consistent results even a year apart is a service I am proud to offer clients who continue to choose me as their photographer. I was contacted by Planar two months ago to make professional commercial photos of their LED panel displays products they installed in a call center in Hobbs, New Mexico. However, Covid-19 soon shut everything down and it took until now for it to be safe to travel to Hobbs and finally make the photos. To make these images I knew the challenge would be how to capture the bright LED displays in a dimly lit space.

Returning client Tavis, of Morrision Outdoors, brought his latest kids sleeping bags to the JCP Home Studio for professional product shots, that are featured on REI.com. This was my third shoot for him, and done in a safe, social distancing way in this time of Covid-19. He dropped off the sleeping bags in the studio with both of us wearing masks and 6 feet apart, and then left as I started the photo session with great help from Jessica as always who staged the sleeping bags. I show one of our secrets in a BTS photo below showing how to get volume in a sleeping bag by filing it with towels, paper towels, and even a canister of disinfectant wipes!

Large product photography for Aristech on green screen

Returning client Aristech, located in Belen, New Mexico, this time needed professional product shots of a very large (7 feet tall!) item on a green screen. Regular readers of Jason Collin Photography may recall that last fall I made a wide variety of commercial photos at Aristech of the team producing this type of item. That was a very complicated shoot in terms of moving around the facility. This large product shoot was complicated in its own way due to the size of the item and its highly reflective surface. The overhead lighting could not be adjusted other than being turned completely off. After trying a couple of different lighting setups, I finally settled on one overhead light only on the time. You can check out the BTS shot below showing the entire green screen setup.

Great professional photos for scarves on Etsy

In part two of my professional product photography shoot for JoAnna (check out part 1 jewelry), I feature the photos I made of her wearables, in this case, scarves that she is already featuring on her Etsy store and Facebook page. Like the jewelry, these scarves were a challenge in their own way to make great product photographs of because maintaining color accuracy was very important. Getting the white background to expose enough that in editing it could be made pure white, while still lighting the scarves well enough to show the details took some fine tuning in camera and with lighting. As you can see in the screenshot of JoAnna’s Etsy store banner below, everything came out perfectly to help show her wearables and jewelry in a modern and creative way that will help her sell her unique items faster.

I am happy to work with new client, JoAnna, on her growing line of jewelry and wearables. She brought over some creative jewelry for me to make professional product photographs of at the JCP Home Studio in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I offered her a test shoot at no charge giving us a chance to work together to get the final image results of her jewelry just as she wanted. This will allow her for future shoots to just be able to drop off the jewelry as I know what results she wants, as I strive to provide maximum convenience for clients and their busy schedules. This was a fun and challenging shoot from both a physical (see BTS shot) and technical standpoint, and then again in editing. I look forward to the next shoot with JoAnna!
