Willie’s second headshot shoot this summer in Albuquerque

I really appreciate returning clients to Jason Collin Photography, so I was very glad to get a text from Willie asking about another headshot shoot, just after we had the first one in May. That time was in studio, this time was out on location in downtown Albuquerque. The main benefit of shooting on location is that you get your own unique background that I will never be able to replicate for another client. Willie had seen the headshots I made for KRQE meteorologist Connor Lewis near the Civic Plaza area of downtown and wanted similar, though I told him I will not be able to get exactly the same results. Thank you Willie for continuing to choose me as your headshot photographer and thanks to Jessica for assisting on this Covid-19 safe headshot photoshoot.

Depth of Field Matters in Making a Creative Photo

Depth of Field Matters in Making a Creative Photo

Using shallow depth of field and setting your focus point

Since I started Jason Collin Photography back in 2009, I have taught hundreds of people of all levels 1-on-1 photography lessons. In the course of that teaching I repeated some favorite photography advice. Here is one of them:

“Show me something I cannot see by just standing there.”

Another one is:

“A photographer can make something out of nothing.”

In the example photos in this blog post I had my Sigma 50mm f/1.4 ART lens on my Sony a7 III full frame mirrorless camera. This lens is my favorite lens for making something out of nothing because the large f/1.4 aperture means I can easily create very shallow DoF (depth of field). Making a photo with a very shallow DoF is one of the easiest ways to make something out of nothing.

Downtown Albuquerque Sunset 360 Panorama Drone Aerial Photography

Downtown Albuquerque Sunset 360 Panorama Drone Aerial Photography

Downtown Albuquerque like you have never seen before

Part of my drone photography work for WSI Web Enhancers took me to downtown Albuquerque at sunset to get beautiful, attention grabbing drone imagery for WSI to in turn wow their own client with. Mother Nature greatly cooperated with perfect clouds and warm setting sunlight to paint the view of downtown ABQ with, and for me to send up my DJI Mavic 2 Pro drone up to capture. I was west of the downtown skyline so I could provide both a more unique view of the city (most photos show it from the east) and also to have the Sandia Mountains serve as the backdrop. I am very excited to offer 360 panorama drone photos on Jason Collin Photography for my clients!

360 Drone Panorama Images of Albuquerque

Out on a drone photography assignment for local Albuquerque, New Mexico business WSI Web Enhancers, I launched my drone from the top of a parking garage in downtown, set the photo mode to panorama sphere, and the above is the result. As a certified drone pilot for over 2 years, I regularly share drone content on Jason Collin Photography, but this is the first time to feature a 360 panorama photo! The drone did all the shooting itself. I flew it into position, and let the drone do its thing. The big challenge for me was, how to share this 360 panorama image on my site. I did a lot of research into this and found no clear process actually. After a while I came to find that I need to upload the huge panorama image the drone stitched together for me, to a website that will host the image and format it. Basically it’s like putting video on YouTube.

Professional Headshots for Lawyers in Albuquerque New Mexico with Scott

The best lawyer headshots in Albuquerue

Downtown Albuquerque all of a sudden has been an in demand location for my professional headshot photo services! Often when I debut a new photo style on Jason Collin Photography new clients see it and want it too. Such was the case for these lawyer headshots with Scott of Turner Law Firm. The advantage of shooting on location is that you get an absolutely unique background for your headshot. This is demonstrated by the fact just 15 minutes earlier, at the same two downtown ABQ locations, I photographed his partner, Joshua, with the same lighting setup, same intersections in the background, and you can see how different his headshots turned out.

Meteorologist Headshot Photo Newscaster for KRQE Connor Lewis in Albuquerque

On location headshot photography at its best in ABQ

Very rarely do I get to make headshots out on location, so when local KRQE meteorologist Connor Lewis asked for a shoot in downtown Albuquerque, I was very excited for it. As it turns out, this was one of my best every photo shoots of any kind. Being used to shooting headshots in studio with a solid white, black, or gray background, having a changing palette in the form of the downtown streets added a new creative element to every headshot I made for Connor. The traffic lights chasing from green to red made a difference, a car stopping with its lights on added to the background, and then in the next shot it moved on and was gone. This was fascinating to me. All through the shoot Connor was the one constant, always being ready for when I framed the shot and needed to get it in what could be my only chance.
