In studio personal branding session with an Albuquerque attorney

A great choice I am now offering clients are branding photo shoots at YDS Studio in Nob Hill. That is where I met David, an attorney, who wanting a variety of branding photos from seated to standing. Using the great new physical backgrounds at YDS Studio I was able to make the kinds of branding photos David was looking for. With the huge windows on one side of the studio, I was even able to use natural light for some of these photos. David was great in front of the camera and open to using all the studio space had to offer. Plus, I offer tethered shooting in studio so he could see the results instantly on a 16” screen. Thank you David for choosing me as your photographer!

Commercial Portraits and Personal Branding Photography for CNM with Trish of Teeniors

Commercial Portraits and Personal Branding Photography for CNM with Trish of Teeniors

Golden light in Altura Park for commercial portraits in Albuquerque

Continuing the ongoing photography project I have with CNM to photograph founders of various local businesses (see first shoot), I met Trish of Teeniors at Altura Park. I have known Trish already for a couple of years through various business community and networking events. Even knowing someone just a little makes a big difference in the photo shoot I have found in my 13 years of doing this. Thus, the commercial portraits I were able to make of Trish, also benefiting from the late afternoon light in the park, resulted in some of the best photos I have made this year. Of course, Trish was a natural in front of the camera which always makes things much easier too! Thank you to Jen for organizing and to Trish for our planned, but still impromptu photo shoot!

Horses and Robots for CNM Photography Project in Albuquerque

Horses and Robots for CNM Photography Project in Albuquerque

Making photos of horses and robots and people for CNM

All of October I am working on a project for CNM making photographs of founders of companies in and around Albuquerque. Some of these people I have already known for quite some time, like Paul of Equiseq. And I also tangentially knew Chris of Build With Robots from an open house years ago. I really like photo assignments like this where with a simple one light off camera setup, can go into a new environment and have free reign to create the photo I like of each person. Thank you to Jen and CNM for choosing me as the photographer for this project!

50th Annual Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta Fine Art Photos

The Special Shapes of the 50th Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta

There were a lot of new special shapes at the 50th Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta! From animals, to a UFO, to some others not so easily identifiable, I share below my collection of photos of the special shapes as well as the masses of balloons in the air. This year I chose to bring just one lens, my Sony 50mm f/1.2 GM. At first this might sound like a very limited lens to shoot a very unlimited event. Sometimes I prefer this, especially when just shooting by myself, to let the lens dictate how I can frame things. I shot exclusively at f/1.2 as well. What do I look for when framing a hot air balloon shot? I really like to have no balloons over lap, and I do not like balloons half out of the edge of the frame. From there I like to have a focal balloon if there are more than one.

Professional Auction Car Photography for RM Sothebys with a 1953 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith in Albuquerque New Mexico

Professional Auction Car Photography for RM Sothebys with a 1953 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith in Albuquerque New Mexico

A morning photographing a special Rolls-Royce in New Mexico

A representative from RM Sotheby’s called me up about photographing this majestic 1953 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith in nearby Sandia Park, New Mexico. I am always excited to have the opportunity to photograph special cars like this Rolls-Royce. It even had quite a history, as it was originally in Canada and in 1957 when Prince Phillip visited the Canada for the celebration of its independence, he rode in this very car! There is a plaque on the dash to commemorate this even. I found this car very striking from the outside with its sweeping wheel well design and of course the always impressive front grill that is the hallmark of all Rolls-Royce vehicles to this day. Using the Sony 50mm f/1.2 GM lens, the magic properties of that lens along with the striking pose of theSpirit of Ecstasy combined for incredible detail shots of this storied vehicle. Thank you to the owners for the interesting conversation while shooting, and to RM Sotheby’s for the opportunity to spend time with the history of this Rolls-Royce!

Hotel Albuquerque Courtyard Fountain Scenes in Photography

Hotel Albuquerque Courtyard Fountain Scenes in Photography

50mm scenes from Hotel Albuquerque’s courtyard

While at Hotel Albuquerque photographing an event taking place in its courtyard, in the moments finding different points from which to photograph the event itself, which was just a reception and not very fast paced, I had the chance to take a few photos of the features inside the courtyard like the large water fountain, the flora, and the event tent itself in place no doubt in case of any unscheduled rain. All these photos were taking with the amazing Sony 50mm f/1.2 GM lens. Every time I use it, I find myself re-remembering this lens not only has magical properties, but it can be used for a much wider variety of photo than one may think. For a 50mm lens, it is nearly ten times what I paid for my very first 50mm lens (Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D) back in 2008, but it just might be ten times the lens!
