Silverware Photo Contest Shoot?

This was a most unusual photo shoot. I was contacted to photograph tableware for a contest. I am always up for a different kind of photo shoot so I took my camera bag to a restaurant where I worked with one of the biggest teams to make these photos happen. Before this I was always hired to photograph the actual food. This time, the forks, knives, and plates! That’s why in these photos you will see the food mostly out of focus, but a fork in focus. The chef’s creations were the background for these photos. He didn’t seem to mind at all! Being a commercial photographer in Albuquerque, New Mexico allows for a wide variety in photo shoots!

SuperNationals Custom Car Show 2019 Albuquerque New Mexico

Car shows hard to photograph cars at?

Car shows are in fact, a very hard place to actually photograph cars in. That’s why when I go to them, I often just bring my 50mm lens, or in this case my Tamron 90mm macro lens. For the SuperNationals Custom Car Show 2019 in Albuquerque I guessed it would be crowded, people walking into potential photos from all directions, and the cars would be bunched in close together and often roped off. All this was the case so I was glad I decided to focus on getting details shots of the custom cars there with my macro lens.

East Jesus Art in Slab City California

East Jesus Art in Slab City California

Slab City no longer like Easy Rider era

Slab City. It was a mysterious place floating in my mind for decades, ever since seeing Easy Rider. In my memory the movie showed Slab City as a place in California you can just setup and live, on empty slabs of concrete out in the desert. In preparing to go to Slab City recently, I read up some about it. It was supposedly still a lawless place where the police did not go, and were not wanted. I was actually concerned about safety issues trying to just drive through Slab City. I expected to be met with very unwelcome looks, as an outsider. Slab City, I thought, is not a place for casual visitors.

Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce Staff & Ambassador Headshots

Headshots for the Hispano Chamber in Albuquerque

I am proud to be a member of the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce so when they asked me to make updated headshots for new staff members and ambassadors, I was very happy to do so.  They wanted the same style and look as their previous headshots, which meant having the U.S. and New Mexico flags in the background.  Having seen the outdoor location used for the old headshots, I suggested we take things indoors and control the harsh daylight that was visible in the semi-covered outdoor hallway that was used before.  This allowed me to get consistent results over a long shoot without worrying about the sun changing the ambient light and adding more or less shadow to the background.

Trio of Start Up Company Headshots in Albuquerque New Mexico

Headshots for my networking friend

I met Adam a while back at an event for the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce.  We stayed in touch via email, and continued to run into each other at other Chamber events and at 1 Million Cups ABQ too.  It was finally a good time for him to visit the JCP Home Studio and bring his two start up partners Ron and Michael.  They wanted some uniformity to the headshots in terms of feel, look, and smile, while of course still making each person show their own personality.  I think we were successful in getting three headshots that look alike in general, but have individuality to them as well!

Second Sneak Preview of One of Many Project

Second Sneak Preview of One of Many Project

A favorite photo

This is a second sneak preview of the 10 women I photographed at the JCP Home Studio in Albuquerque, New Mexico for the We Rise organization that will be featured in the One Of Many photography exhibition at the KD Neeley Gallery on October 05, 2018.  I will be one of five photographers featured at the event which you can find out more info about at this Facebook event page.  The photo above is my personal favorite from the shoot. I chose a tight crop to really focus in on the emotion in the eyes.  Shooting with my new Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Macro SP lens allowed me to focus very closely and get extreme detail.  Be sure and mark your calendars for the evening of October 5th to come out and support this cause and see these images as large prints.

Classic Car Interior Photography Albuquerque New Mexico

macro lens at a classic car show

Going to a car show for the first time, you never really know what to expect with regard to how many cars, how cool of cars, and even what kinds of cars.  I was pleasantly surprised by a recent small car show I went to in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.  A good number of classic cars many of which had very interesting interiors.  With my new Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Macro SP lens on my Nikon D750 exclusively while at this car show, I decided to make the theme of my shots the cool classic car interiors, with a few detail shots here and there.  Check out the sense of humor of a 1966 Mustang owner with what passes for an "airbag" in his classic car!
