Lola gets in Pulse Magazine with Scot in Socorro

I headed down to Socorro, New Mexico to meet Scot for an editorial photoshoot for Pulse Magazine, which is the magazine for Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. As a nurse and alumni, he was being featured for being the first nurse anesthetist at Socorro General Hospital to live there locally in more than 40 years! I made several photos of Scot, but I should not have been suprised the one the magazine chose also had his dog, Lola, in it!

Commercial Portraits in a beautiful downtown Albuquerque building

The interior of a beautiful building in downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico made for a fantastic setting for a commercial portrait shoot with Maria. She is going to be featured in an industry magazine article so I visited her one morning to make the photos for that piece. Many of the times I shoot on location, I do not know what to expect for a shooting environment, and such was the case this time. Fortunately, the open office space of what used to be the lobby of this building had several different background options. Maria had a good sense of the space also and helped with choosing the right chair for the cover photo you see above. The challenge of shooting on location, usually unknown location, is one I actually enjoy a lot as it usually results in even more creative shots. Thank you Maria for being so great in front of the camera that morning.

Rhode Island connection with a voice actor in ABQ

It is not often I meet someone else from Rhode Island here in New Mexico, but such was the case when Jeffery, a voice actor, visited the JCP Home Studio for commercial portraits and headshots. For his style Jeffrey wanted a black background. For some of the shots he even brought is own props. I was glad for the opportunity to photograph him “live” while talking into the mic making it look like he was doing voice acting. You can see the BTS shot below showing the three light setup I used to make the above image. This was a creative shoot that let me experiment with light in ways I do not often get to do, plus talk about Rocky Point! Thank you Jeffrey for choosing me as your photographer and reminiscing about Rhode Island.

Fine Product Photos of Fine Soap in ABQ

I received a phone call from Trish about making product photography shots of her fine soaps here at the JCP Home Studio, but a shoot that would first be preceded by prop shopping at Thrift Town! So we met at my favorite thrift store in Albuquerque, where I helped her choose some props to use in the background of the product shots, and then we had the actual shoot. Trish did a great job picking out excellent props and helping with the staging of the soap, allowing me to concentrate on the technical aspects of getting the lighting right first, and then the composition with the soap being well placed among the props for maximum impact the her customers view the soap photos on her website. It was a really fun shoot starting with shopping and ending with some really great photos of very fine soap! And thank you Trish for leaving two bars behind for me!

The technical challenge of product photography

I find product photography to be one of the biggest technical challenges in the photography work I do in the JCP Home Studio in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The latest product shoot was certainly a challenge, but one I really enjoyed as Tavis brought his newly designed very cold weather sleeping bags designed for kids. Lac Cruces New Mexico Lawyer Headshots

3 hours to a professional headshot shoot

Noble Law Firm contacted me about making professional headshots for all their lawyers across three cities in New Mexico. One of those cities was Las Cruces over 3 hours to the south of Albuquerque! They wanted consistency in the headshots so I told them yes, I can go to Las Cruces, then Santa Fe, and finally the office right here in Albuquerque. After the long drive south, the headshot shoot at the Las Cruces office was one of the most fun I have ever had, especially for headshots!

Actor Headshots take 2

As a professional photographer it is the highest compliment when a client returns, and especially so when it is less than two months! Jake returned to the JCP Home Studio in Albuquerque, New Mexico for a couple more actor headshots. His first shoot produced most shots with a semi-profile view of his face while wearing a black leather jacket. This time he wanted more straight on shots and no jacket. He also changed up his hairstyle. I think we may have outdone ourselves with this second shoot! Thanks Jake and hope these get your some awesome acting roles!
