Back to the Mediterranean for Pita

It was deja vu for me this afternoon as a year and a half ago I was in this very same restaurant space doing another shoot for UberEats for a new restaurant called Bayti. Unfortunately, they went out of business. Now in that space, Need-A-Pita run by the very friendly owner, Alex. He helped out by having all the dishes ready one after another and even let me take home the falafel with extra pita. He said it would be the best pita I ever ate, and he was right. The pita was incredibly light and fluffy. Thank you Alex and all your staff (even one person volunteering to be a hand model) for a great food shoot here in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

10 dish hero food photo

Having done dozens and dozens of shoots for UberEats, this morning was my first one for Grubhub. The latter has similar photography requirements to the former, but a lot more dishes! As you can see in the hero shot above, there are way more than just 5 dishes in it, as I shot 15 total for this Grubhub professional food photography shoot in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I managed to get 10 of the 15 in the final hero shot. A big thanks to Jacob and his team at Two Cranes Bistro + Brews for getting all this food in front of my lens very efficiently. And also for having a vegan Beyond Cheeseburger on the menu! I look forward to returning as a customer!

Pink Food Background

I had a colorful pink table top for the background of this UberEats food photography shoot in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I have photographed many Mexican restaurants in ABQ, but this new location for Taco Mex, to be specific Taco Mex 4, presented me some new dishes I had never seen nor heard of before. New dishes plus a pink table top made for a fun food photography shoot!

Photograph it, then eat it!

Back out on another UberEats food photography shoot, this time at Rude Boy Cookies near UNM in central Albuquerque, New Mexico. As the name might imply, this was a much sweeter than usual food photography shoot in ABQ! They make cookies, of course, but also ice cream, shakes, gold bars, and even a flavor shot with milk! If photographing this food was not fun enough, the owner said I could take whatever I wanted home! I took it all save for the glass of milk. Silverware Photo Contest Shoot?

This was a most unusual photo shoot. I was contacted to photograph tableware for a contest. I am always up for a different kind of photo shoot so I took my camera bag to a restaurant where I worked with one of the biggest teams to make these photos happen. Before this I was always hired to photograph the actual food. This time, the forks, knives, and plates! That’s why in these photos you will see the food mostly out of focus, but a fork in focus. The chef’s creations were the background for these photos. He didn’t seem to mind at all! Being a commercial photographer in Albuquerque, New Mexico allows for a wide variety in photo shoots!

Natural light and natural balance!

UberEats sends me about one or two food photography assignments per month, after doing about 30 when they first debuted that service 1.5 years ago. This time I went to Carraro’s in the UNM area of Albuquerque. UberEats wants natural light from a window in the restaurant, and fill light can be added by using a reflector, which is what I used even for this hero shot. I propped the reflector against the table with my camera bag, stood on a chair, flipped out the screen on my Nikon D750, pointed the camera straight down, and boom, hero shot! It took me a few tries to align the food who I liked and to make sure none of the plates overlapped. Just using a little natural light, and my own natural balance to get a professional food photo!

3 leches was great!

Back out on another food photography assignment for UberEats in Albuquerque, New Mexico this morning at Buen Provecho. This restaurant is run by the very friendly Katia and features Costa Rican food and photography! It is a very small space in the new El Vado, with outside seating only. However, as you can see, there are big meals and very tempting desserts. In fact I got to take home the 3 leches and flan! The 3 leches in particular will have me back soon for more!
