Looking for updated headshots to help him in his profession as a baritone opera singer, Jonathan visited the JCP Home Studio in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Like in many of my headshot shoots, we started on on a white background and the moved to a black background. I use two different lighting setups and a number of different poses. This was my personal favorite headshot from our session. The lighting and the expression Jonathan has I feel matches the headshot look and feel I wanted to create for him as an opera singer.

Drone’s eye view of Rio Rancho desert road

While out on a drone aerial photoshoot for a client in remote Rio Rancho, turning away from the actual property site, I saw from the drone’s point of view this long desert road that is apparently a popular spot for motorcycles to do burnouts on! This is something that would have been very hard to observe from ground level. I am often surprised by what I find when I get home and import drone aerial photos. Even without the tire marks, I like the view the drone captured where the winding road takes the viewer into the desert, but the height of the drone keeps the viewer safe from the hardships of the desert, allowing quick escape if necessary.

Heather contacted me wanting headshots to represent her as the professional she is, a psychologist. She even came to Albuquerque all the way from Arizona having specifically sought me out to be her headshot photographer after doing extensive online research! I am very glad that Heather chose me as her headshot photographer and traveled over 3 hours because it was a very fun shoot as her partner and her dog were in studio too! It was a lot of fun, and also as you can see some fantastic headshots with a lot of impact were made.

The surreal black & white HDR landscape photograph you see above is not at all what the client that sent me out to that location needs to sell the land. However, the twisted tree, the ominous clouds, and the fact the tree wa growing out of solid rock really caught my eye. So I paused for a moment to make a photograph for myself that interested me. Black background headshots have gotten more and more popular with my clients here in Albuquerque, New Mexico in the past year, as each new client sees the work I did with past clients and ask for a black background headshot too. That is fine with me as black background headshots offer a bold and modern look. Jessica contacted me about making headshots for her management services company that would match the black and white look of the company’s website. I suggested going with a black background to standout against the white background of the website itself. The results you can see in context for yourself below.

Getting titled for lens flare in Timberon tree tops

My third return to the very remote New Mexico town of Timberon was for shooting rural land real estate once again, but this time 12 properties in done day! This meant not being there my usual 90-minutes before sunset as that would not leave nearly enough time. Which in turn means no signature sunset HDR photos of the properties. Add to the fact that nearly all of these properties were nearly all covered in very tall pine trees. There was not only no sunset, but also no horizon to even see. What was my solution for getting creative shots? Tilt the lens upward and embrace the lens flare and sunburst effect from having an ultra wide 15mm lens looking right at the sun. What do you think of this style of photo and the unique effect of shooting tilted up at the sun?

Frozen Treetops Over Dark Pools

Right on time to the weather forecast, snow began falling at 5pm on a Friday. By midnight it was a frozen landscape like I have never seen in Albuquerque, New Mexico before. There was not just snow cover, it was as if the trees and ground themselves had become snow leaving only dark ponds to contrast with all that white. I went out with my tripod to make these long exposure (5, 15, 30 second exposures) in black & white around my own apartment complex grounds.
